My brakes are freakin me out!!!!!
« on: Oct 21, 2004, 11:36:45 PM »
so i took the lspv off of my truck and its not stopping right.  When im sitting in the truck when the motor is turned off theres preassure for one second and then it goes to the floor but only about an inch and a half of movement.   When im driving my brakes jump and the truck dives back and forth.  Its like my brakes are spngy but i bled them several times and they have perfectyly fine preassurerized systems.  I threw the proportioning valve thingy or load sensing valve junk away and i dont know what to do now... the truck has a scary pedal... i cant drive the thing..... :help:  :help:  :help:  :help: :screwy:  :headscratch:

So did you remove the entire valve or just cut the rod off? I've been told not to remove the valve, and just to cut the rod off leaving a little nub and then adjust it with some plumbers tape and let it be..

I always leave the arm attached and use an exhaust clamp through a slot under the bed to keep it secured in the full upright and locked position.  Ill bet if ya PM'ed ShawnB he'd be more than happy to snap a pic of how I did that on his truck.

You know my truck has some sort of add a leafs in the rear and its a bit taller than stock, so that should make the valve think there is less weight over the rear tires and it should have less rear braking power, but everytime I've had to hammer on the brakes, the rear tires always lock. It's kinda annoying..

WT, you say yours is in the full upright? Wouldn't that simulate an extreme load in the bed as if the rear suspension was riding on the bump stops, and so more braking power would go to the rear?

lol Oops what can I say I had just gotten off work and I was a bit tired.  I do that trick when converting to the ifs rear axle.  With the bigger wheel cylinders it takes more pedal to work properly.

I cut the rod off with a plasma cutter last year.  But now my brakes are a little scarey too.  I was going up a hill and was gonna stop at a stop sign.  I pressed the pedal in a little and the tires locked up.  It was kinda cool but scarey too.  It seems to only do it when the truck has not warmed up yet.  O well, hopefully i will get a car pretty soon, then full sizes are coming.

I bypassed mine with a T fitting , Brakes are a little mushy but I still look up the tires, my biggest problem is the bleed down at a stop on a hill  :smack: :usa:
