3rd gen runner sas
« on: May 12, 2009, 10:04:57 PM »
Here's what I got 97 4runner sr5 5spd 3.4 under the hood

Plans:
Sas either full widths or smaller 44
Have hd 44 68 wms and a d70
Leafs marlin 4in mabey 5"
Dual cases
35s but leaning to 37s
Custom bumpers and of course locked
Bottom line I'm going for mossys rig but I'm keeping the back

I'm looking for and good advice as of now don't think I'll go hysteer and keep it like eriks runner
This rig still has to stay streetable as I can't always ride to work.
Mostly going to be a all around rig not just a rocker

If you are going full width you should go with a d60 front from the start. The extra cost is not that significant in the overall price of building a rig. Run toyota RUF and f150s in the rear. This will save enough money to help offset the price of the 60 and and with the weight of the axles will work as well as anything you can buy. The only downside of a front 60 is you lose some clearance but since you are running a 70 rear this shouldn't be an issue. If you're looking to be a little narrower get a dodge front 60 instead of a Chevy. They are a couple of inches narrower and usually a couple hundred $ cheaper.

Eventually I will go 60 but just for now I'm sticking with the 44 as I got it for only 100 bucks but I'll keep my eyes out for a dodge front 60 for when the time comes

You can make it what ever you want. The toyota rear springs up front would give you very little lift if you just used the stock 3 leaf pack with the over load removed. You will need to add a couple leafs to gain a little lift if you want to run high steer. If you are going to run some kind of low steer you can run a much flatter pack. As for the rear I don't think the f150s would give you alot of lift as the 4runners are pretty heavy. The most important thing is to figure out what main leafs you want to run. You can put what ever you want under them to get the ride height you want. Use the top two rear toyota leafs up front. They are very flexy and give you miliyary wrap.

As for the rear go to the pick and pull and have a look around. F 150s, s10, and rangers are all about 57" long and have similar arch. Keep an eye out for bronco II springs. These have more leafs than f150s so you can remove a leaf or two if you want less lift.

This is my brothers 4runner. It has toyota rears up front. Probably 3" of lift. This is about as low as you can go with high steer and an IFS frame.

They are 51" rears from a 89+ toyota pickup. They are very soft and he had to add a lot of leaves under them because he carries lots of tools for work. I am going to run a stock 3 leaf 51" pack in the rear of my truck but I don't care if it sits lower in the rear than the front.

the truck in my avatar had rears up front frankenstien pack. 1 in front hanger and 5.5in bannana shackles and ran 38's so i should be ok with rears. might go with chevys out back due to the weight though as I pull a small trailer sometimes. im also going to run lo steer like eriks http://home.4x4wire.com/erik/4runner/sas/#steering

but when I go to a 60 ill take the time and go hyd

Got my tires 4 brand new never mounted 37" hummer tires I decided to keep it full width so that meens 8 lug I think I'm going to go with hummer rims too as I can get the double beedlock and parts easy. Due to the lockout in the front being so huge I might have to recenter or run spacer or mqbeu some new warns will be a lower profile? Still on the hunt for some toy rears and Chevys

How much are you paying for the hummer tires and rims? I have been unable to find a good source locally so I will probably have to have mine shipped. If your running the 37" radial make sure to get the 12 bolt rims. The 8 bolt rims are not meant to hold the higher psi and can come apart with a radial tire.

5.13 gears are the best I'll be able to do that's the only combo I can get with my 70 rear. Bout I orderup some hangers, hoops and tabs soon. Still trying to get ahold of some rims and springs are pretty tough too
