85 Runner poorboy special
« on: Apr 06, 2008, 08:14:17 PM »

This is my first ever build, so take it easy on me, bought this jewel because of the good frame and motor.  Put in a new clutch, cut off all the rusty junk, gave her a little clean up.  Im gonna put 3" springs, gears, and 35,s in due time.  But for now Im too anxious to wheel her, so I'll rock it stock for a few months.

Yeah, I'm in the process of cleaning up the frame.  Its still solid as a rock, but I'm gonna strip it down and repaint it black.  Thanks for the comments.

Here are a few pics of wheelin at my friends house this week.  I was really surprised how well it ran.  The only thing I couldn't do was big off camber stuff, cause it would flip. You just can't beat a toyota!

I never used a wire welder till I began this project but I bought a Hobart 125 for $300 and taught myself.  It took me three months and some trial and error but it couldn't of come out any better.

Started off with an 85 axle ($150 Ebay)
Marlin axle rebuild kit
Sky High steer
TG 3" front springs
Marlin U bolts
Sky Chevy spring hanger kit
2 2006 Chevy rear springs ($50 Craigslist)
36" Irocks/ Black rockcrawl wheels
Made a front shaft
Rebuilt alot of the rear frame, and made a cage
Pro comp shocks
Awsome TCS tool box, probably my favorite thing on my truck LOL!
Honda Civic Seat ($20 craigslist)
5:29 gears Stock birfields( till I can get longfields)

Been to alot of places Attica, In, Redbird offroad park, and lots of local spots, and then hop on the interstate and cruis a 70mph without a problem.

I just need to mount those duct taped taillights.......
