They're supposed to be between the engine block and crankshaft

They keep the crankshaft from moving back and forth in the block.

At a minimum you'll need to replace your bearings.

if you already have a 20R in your truck, all you need is the 22R block (you can use your 20R crank, and rods) and pistons.

everything else from the 20R  you will use, from the timing cover to the flywheel

thats what i was thinking, was just the block, i was looking it up but most people start with the 22, but my 20r is still good except for these falling out.....so id have to just pop the top end off, put the 22r block on and im pretty much good?

You have lost your crankshaft thrust washers. They are found on the sides of the #3 main bearing cap and when this happens, the crankshaft will move forward when the clutch is depressed and contact the webbing of the block. In almost all cases, the block is waisted due to the machined area that holds the thrust bearings being worn away.

^^^^^ ...that's why HE da man  :yesnod: . About the hybrid... I was under the impression the 20 head works on the 22 blocks; with some relief work on the pistons (for the valves)? What are the benefits of doing this? How about a stroker engine?? Why do I ask so many questions?
