Definitely go with a W56, preferably a 1985 W56-A style or 1986-88 W56-B style since your top shift 4spd transfer case can be made 100% compatible and will bolt right up once you take a grinder and lightly grind down the spline step on it's input.
Because the 20R and 22R share the same bellhousing bolt pattern, and beings the 1985-88 4cyl (non-turbo) engines were from the same family as a fuel injected variant, the 22R-E, the 1985-88 W56 will bolt directly to your 22R.
Please note however that the release bearing on your L43 is not compatible with a W56. It will need to be changed when you do the swap. The rest of the clutch components and flywheel will all work just fine with the 1985-88 W56 transmission.
Then, once you find a 3RZ, all you need to do is go to a junk yard and locate a 3RZ bellhousing, which happens to be a bellhousing designed for a W59 transmission (the default 5spd trans of the 3RZ), but luckily for us, the W59 and the W56 -- being from the same family -- have the same front housing bolt pattern making their bellhousings completely interchangeable.
So get a W56-A or W56-B and bolt this between your 22R and your 4spd top-shift transfer case.
Then later in the future, get a 3RZ
and it's matching bellhousing -- a bellhousing from the 1995-2004 W59 5spd transmission -- and put this bellhousing between the 3RZ and your W56-A or W56-B
