2nd gen 4runner 22re questions
« on: Mar 08, 2009, 11:26:47 AM »
I am going to look at a 95 22re 5spd 4 runner without manual hubs next week and am wondering if they have the gear drive t case. If not, can a gear drive case be put in and what would that entail. If it's spendy, that would affect how much I would be willing to pay. Thanks.
(Maybe the transfer case bible everyone talks about would tell me, but I'm too stoopid to find it)

As long as you get the correct shifting topshift/forward shift, so it matches up. It should just be a bolt in job. But perhaps if you are unable to find that information yourself, you should have someone ele undertake the job :-p
If you see it, its for sale.

There's no way for me to know if it's top or forward because I haven't seen the rig in person, therefore I haven't crawled under it. That's why I asked.

22re motors came with gear driven t-cases, V6's came with the chain drive. So as long as the drivetrain is original I'd say you have what you want

It doesn't matter if you have on eor the other. it just will tell you what trans case you will need to get when you do the swap. again it should juust be a bolt in job.  When you look at it. 7 bolts is gear driven and 5 is chain driven! Good Lcuk

Some 22re equipped Pickups/4Runners had the g58 transmission and chain t-case.   In the pickups is was xtra cabs but I'm not sure about 4Runners.

YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.
