Topic: W56 Tranny Questions

I have a 1991 22re regular cab pickup with a tired old w56 tranny in it, I am sure this is what it is as I have looked on the door tag and figured it out.  I just got a w56 amd t-case out of a 1988 extra cab 22re.  Right now I just want to swap this tranny into my current truck becuase mine is making a fair amount of bearing noise.  Will the tranny and t-case from the 88 bolt into my 91 or not?  I was trying to decipher the different tcases and transmissions on the site here but am unsure if I have all compatible components.  In the future I would like to go to a dual case setup, do I have the right t-cases to make this happen?  You can check out some pics of my truck here http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=397976   its changed some since then, but the basics are there.

yup, the whole shebang from the '88 will bolt right in.  the only difference is that the '88 uses a top shifted transfer case, while the '91 has a forward shifted case.  to go to a dual case setup you'd either have to use your current tranny and t-case(for a crawl box) and bolt the '88 case behind that, or change your current case over to top shift(about $60 if you want it to be a crawl box for duals) to run it behind the '88 tranny
