I am currently building a 83 22R block with a 79 20R head. Everything I have read about this project is it bolts right on without mods. I have got the lower end done with .020 partial domed or donut as some call them I think. As far as I can tell the donut top piston is stock in all 80-84 22R. I put the head on to check piston to valve clearance with clay and I don't have any clearance the intake valve hits the piston on overlap. The head is only cut .010 from stock and the block was decked just to clean it up. I have not found any posting that have had this problem. I found one posting that said he had .080 clearance. Am I missing something here? Do these pistons need reliefs cut. Why isn't anybody else having this problem? Are these the wrong pistons for the job even though everything I have read says to use stock 80-84 pistons. Thanks for any help, Jay P
