Rough Idle
« on: Aug 26, 2008, 09:14:33 AM »
Hey, I got a 1986 4runner with a 22re. I noticed lately it's been idling like :pokinit:. With the engine running I pulled the oil fill cap and placed a piece of paper over the valve cover and the paper would suck in then blow out continuesly. I did this test about a few months ago and it would have a constant sucking in motion on the paper. I checked the valves, all ok. Did a compression test and found cyl 1 had 150psi cyl, 2 had 165psi cyl. 3 had 150 cyl. 4 had 175 psi. Put some oil in the low cyl. and compression went up to 180 psi. With the engine running I pulled the PCV valve and had a good amount of vacuum being pulled on the valve. Hooked a vacuum gauge to the engine and read 18 inches of vacuum. Any ideas mabey. I have no stumble when driving on the road what so ever.

yea, it runs good. I checked the timing, it was about 3 degrees off so I adjusted it back to stock. I just don't want to deal with oil leaks because of too much crankcase pressures. I'm heading out to Rubicon this Sat. so hopefully it should be ok. Mabey it time to consider the 4.3 swap soon.
