Freeze plugs?? WTF
« on: Dec 23, 2008, 05:03:25 PM »
Quick question, how the crap do you get these things to go in?? I have pounded them to the point that i'm scared that i'm going to break something. This is the last step before my 22-re will be done and ready to swap in. Thanks a ton.

heat the block and freeze the plugs...the hole in the block gets bigger and the plug gets smaller.  :dunno:

What did you do freeze the motor and have to plugs pop out?  They are also the spot were a "block heater" can be installed.

I don't know if that helps..

use a socket or a seal driver that just fits inside the lip of the plug and tap them in. tricky to keep them squared up so they'll start. remember to smear a THIN layer of silicone on the outside flat of the lip before installing, clean any excess after installtion

Standard install is to put them in as KYOTA said, then run the engine a bit to get it hot.  Then tap them in the rest of the way.  (easy to burn yourself, though...)

I put them in cold.  I put pipe dope (liquid ptfe) around the edges and knock them in one at a time with a piece of 1 1/4" tubing.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??
