AUSSIES FOR JEEPS
« on: Feb 04, 2008, 01:46:55 PM »
I don't know how many people know this but you can put an Aussie in the Dana 30 with Vacuum assist (front end and auto hubs) and it will not effect driveability until you put it in 4x4 also I have a 2000 xj with a Dana 30 but I'm  pretty sure its not a vacuum assist. Ive searched to see what its classifies as and if I were to lock it up would it effect anything other then 4X4?   I would lock the rear but Aussie hasn't come out with a locker for the Chrysler 8.25 yet! thanks for any info.....

Your talkind bout the dana 30, right.  There was no dana 35 front axle in any jeep. WEll Ive got a lockright in my d30.  It had vacume disconect, but I swaped out for a one pice shaft.  The only thing that happens in mine is when I make sharp turns I here clik, clik ,clik.  Which is normal, just the locker un locking and doing its job.  Ausiee works on the same idea as the lockright.  If you have the disco axle you would be betert off.  YOu will have no issuses.

I dont even know its there untill I make a shrp turn, then there is just a faint ratchet sound.  Well my DS always turned befor cause I swaped it for a solid one.  No biggie.  All of the TJ and newer jeep Front DS always turn cause there a one pice as well.  Post up some action shots in my thred.

ok, where to start. 1. even if you have vacum disconnect on a d-30 your carrier still turns because the driverside axle is locked. this only helps you with an open carrier because it allows the driver side spider gears run cirlces inside the carrier and not spin the drive shaft. 2. they dont come with auto hubs, they are locked all the time rather you like it or not, if you hubs are not locked in than you have a problem. 3. yes aussie lockers work well in this application with no problems, the disadvantage is your locker could wear out faster because it is spinning all the time. 4. there actually is a d-35 front axle in jeeps but they are very old and some even have birfields (old as in willy's old). 5. you have very few options with the 8.25, detroit, arb, spool, and welded. as far as i know, there is not enough demand for lunchbox lockers for the 29 spline 8.25, maybe for the 27 because they came in more vehicles. hope this clarified some things
