weber carb ?
« on: Feb 26, 2008, 08:09:07 PM »
Hey guys i just got a used weber i bought off of a member on here and i think it came off a landcruiser, seller was unshure what it came off of just got it in a trade, but it came with a landcrusier adapter plate so im guessing its from a cruiser,  but anyways got my new adapter plate today and bolted it all up and truck fired up and then died and started pumping fuel out the top of the carb thew the holes where the yellow lines point, so im guessing the jets are prob way too big? or maby something is stuck sence its just been sitting, havent opened the carb up yet the thing looks brand new, and i got a great deal so im just gonna rejet or whatever i gota do too fix it and run it but heres my question if i need too rejet what jets do i replace and what size jets does the stock webers for the 22r come with? :headscratch:
Im wanting too run this on my rig for an upcomeing run in march so im gonna try too hurry and get the parts too fix it.
Thanks for the help guys

sounds like your float level is to high or even sticking. i think I'm running 170 air jets with 145/142 main jets.  65 primary idle jet. i got a weber that looked new outside and was totally gunked inside.. lots of cleaning and it works fine now.

If it was not drained when it was pulled off and set aside it should be taken apart and soaked in carb cleaner. Then put back together with a new kit. That is what I do on MC carbs, know nothing about Webers.

the Weber's are so simple and adjustable you just got to love em. if you have an older carb with the stock jets you'll probably need richer jets to deal with this low BTU fuel sold these days. lcengineering sells a good jet kit. just call them up and tell them what you want to do.

Hey guys the float was just stuck from sitting i guess havent pulled it apart i just tapped on it with some plyers just too see if that would do anything and it actually did runs smooth now,but i think its got too big of jets still because it backfires out the exhaust when i rev it and let off but if i bring it back down slow it wont so must be getting too much fuel  so im gonna pull it apart and put some smaller jets back in,
thanks for all the help

160 air jets are pretty lean. some of the Weber's came with 160 air jets and 140 main jets for the 20r engine. i got a redline weber that came that way. check out redineweber on-line they should have some brake downs that may help you.

I have a weber that I recently installed and my truck is back firing and then it will just die. after reading this I looked down and my jets are 170 passenger and 180 drivers side.  Is that to rich for a 20r with no mods.

no thats what i had on my 20r. but it had cam and a 22r exhaust manifold, so it wasn't really stock. those are air jets and how rich your carb runs also depends on the size of your main jets and idle jets. main jets are in the bottom of the float bowl and the idle jets are on the side of the carburetor.  my carb is slightly under jetted right now. i got more on the top with the bigger jets. right now I'm side tracked on some other mod I'm doing on my truck, plus i drive it every day.

check your idle jet size too. have have a big effect when your jest getting into the throttle. make sure they are clean. i had gunk in mine. i think I'm running .60 or .65. primary. secondary 50 or 55. i,m sure i could fatten them up and get more go.  :burnout: also make sure your accelerator pump is working.

OK this is a weber opened up. the solenoid valve has the idle jet on this carb. most just have a brass holder with the jet at the end pull it out to check that it's clean. the jets at the bottom are main jets. this one was set up with a 150 primary 130 secondary. air jets were 170 primary. 180 secondary.  i don't know why it was set up this way but it ran OK.  it was on a 20r engine. idle jet primary 45 secondary 50. to small with todays gas. my primary is a .65

when you operate the carburetor the first throttle plate to open is the primary side.  looking at the picture it's the left side. it should run fine with those main jets. and your idle jets should be fine too as long as the are clean. pull them out of the holders and look down the center. should be a clean round hole there.  do you know what size you air jets are? they are on the top, don't mix them up, pull them out and make sure the emulsion tubes below them are also clean.

true.. but the you know webers in your sleep.  might want to remove the lower section of the power valve and clean it too. water and gunk likes to collect there.

83 Yota 4x4, local shop says at least $275 to rebuild stock carb :yikes: so I'm thinking of ordering a new Weber 34/34 off of ebay. Any pros or cons about this choice and price??
