BV Carnage trip in May??
« on: Mar 25, 2008, 10:04:59 PM »
OK so we have been shooting the idea back and forth for a bit now so i thought we should make it its own thread  :dunno:.

1.So what weekends yall think? I heard the road into the staging spot is closed until it drys since they just fixed it up, which might be more like June. 2. Do we make a weekend out of it and camp and do Carnage one day, China the next? How long it takes to run them (i never have)?
3. Who will be there and what you will be drivin?

Any weekend will work.  I would count on a full day on Carnage and a full day on Chinamans Gulch.  My last run through BV Carnage took 12 hours with 5 rigs.  Yeah, it was a LONG day.
http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=36134.0

With built-up rigs, Chinamans is a couple of hours.  More if you plan on planning around on the obstacles and take some pictures.

You can camp right at the trailhead.  It's not the best camping in the world but it's close :)

Anybody have a winch??  For a trail like Carnage, it's absolutely nessessary to have somebody in your group with a winch.  I didn't have one and I wish I did.  I had to winch the V-notch and the exit.

Milemarker would work.  Would probably need to use a snatch block to double up the pulling power.  I've wondered how well the Smittybuilt winch would work.  For $300 shipped, you can't get anything cheaper than that unless it's the HF 8000lb winch.

I know I won't have a winch by then.  I still need to built front and rear bumpers.  I trashed my front grill, fender, and hood along with a rear tail gate and quarterpanel since I didn't have bumpers last time though Carnage.

I have a winch it a smttybuilt 8000, i still need to mount it so i am not sure how it will work but i do have a snatch block, tree saver ext... If need be i can always take my Tmax off my T100 and bolt it up to someone Else's rig for the weekend. So ya i guess the group has 2 winch's for the trip lol.
Hey Volcom, how are the iroks treating you??

Let me know what you think of that Smittybuilt winch.  It's tempting at that price!  I'm hoping to have a front bumper built by then but no winch.

So far, the Iroks are great.  They are keeping my garage floor warm :)

Honestly, I've only gotten two mounted and have only driving a very short distance on the street with them.

My brother runs the 36's on his YJ and Cubuff4Runner has the 36's on his 96 4Runner (white 4Runner in the trip report link a couple of posts up).  Both like the Iroks off-road but they wear out quick on the street.

I will let you know, i need to finish up a couple odds and ends thing on the runner and it one of them. well if you have a bumper buy then we can slap my Tmax on your since you will most liky be the trail leader since you've ran it before. :dunno:

I'm also trying to get a big group together for the annual CO4RJ (Colorado 4Runner Jamboree) sometime this summer.  Here's the thread on YT.
http://www.yotatech.com/f15/co4rj-2008-a-136929/

It's open to any Toyota vehicle (not just 4Runner's) so you guys would be welcome to come also!  Might be a good weekend to run both Carnage and Chinaman's.  Just an idea.

My rig may not be ready to run anything until middle May.  My April is completely full already and I need to spend some time in the garage getting it back together.
