3.4 tranny ??????????
« on: Jan 23, 2008, 07:03:23 PM »
Ok so i have a 89 4runner 3.0 auto with a blown motor, and have come across a 98 2wd tacoma with a 3.4 57k and auto tranny. I also have an 84 pu lifted axles completely built, that truck has a 22r and a 5speed motors tired and tranny needs rebuilt, and the bodies trashed. What i'm wanting to do is build a bad as 4 runner whats my best route without braking the bank. the tacoma is 1000bucks with no title and nothing else is salvagable "scrap yard". Is the auto tranny for a 4wd tacoma my best route so i don't have to switch pedals around? strength? thanks in advance

i was just concearned with strenght. can the 2wd auto tranny handle a 4wd application? I need to find an adapter to bolt on my tcase. I have a feeling this is going to get pricey. I'm researching the 4.3 700r4 route now but would like to keep it all yoter if i could.

keep it all yota

im not sure  but  i think you need to get a  4x4 trans,  but its possible  to  use a Marlin adapter  to convert the 2wd tranny  to 4wd  using gear drive tcase :dunno:

call Marlin  and see

what kind of wheeling do you do. id go with a R series tranny, there strong and will last a long time. i could deffinetally see how an auto would be awesome for snow wheeling, but thats about it. they have problems with starving for fluid in the front on big inclines. if you are into rocks youll like being able to choose which gear you want to be in rather than it shifting for you all the time.

The 2wd and 4wd tranny are the same inside.  The only difference is the adapter to the transfer case.  You will need to get an adapter to use an older transfer case to get the correct drop to match your axles.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

Im pricing out the 3.4 with r series and 4.3chevy with 700r4 or r series. Like i said earlier i would like to stay all yota but moneys tight. thanks for the replies
