noob question over lockers...
« on: May 31, 2007, 10:04:46 PM »
 :conf:

This is for the people running lockrights..
do they work well on the street? or are they more like a spool locker  where it is more-or-less strictly offroad?

thanks for the time..
i'm wondering because im prcing out this build im planning on running these..

i have heard mroe than a few people unhappy with lockrites for various reasons.

i would personally get an aussie locker. i have never heard anything bad about the aussie other than they dont have a v6 version

i *think* there is a tire size limit on the lockrite, and not one for the aussie

they are basically the same as the lockright.  I had an Aussie locker in the rear of my DD and I got used to it in a few days.  The Ez locker, Lockright and Aussie are almost identical lockers.  All 3 are very easy to install.

I totally agree with this, I've had both the EZ and Lockright and my next was to be an Aussie due to the tire size limitations on the other 2.

so.. my next question is.. all the lockers are automatic? so they're on or off you can not determine what they'll be?

like no switches?

i have an aussie in the rear and lockrite in the front, installing then was identical except that the lockrite had as spring inside of a spring and the aussie is only a single spring.

I have detroits!  They have a real long and good trackrecord!  Not the only option but usually a safe one.

Blew up 2 lockrights with 35s and V8.

Detroit had worse manners than spool on street.

ARB now with 38s... :yesnod:

If you're gonna buy an auto-locker go Aussie.

In my experience 31s were ok with the stock 4.10s behind a 4 cyl.

4.56s would improve response but the increased RPM would not be good for extended highway driving.

4.88s work great with 33s

do u have plans to run bigger tires than 31s in the future? if so id probably go with a 4.88 if your goin with like 35s or somthin, if u are gonna stay with 31 id say u would probably be safe runnin 4.10s.
