22re high idle at first
« on: Nov 14, 2007, 05:51:25 PM »
Guys when I start my truck it idles at 2000 for quite a while and the it will finally after about 5 minutes idle down to about a 1000. isnt that a little high even with the choke?  It runs pretty good with the new motor I just gotta get some 2.25 exhaust. It seems like it takes along time to get her up to 3000 grand but once you do it is real zippy. Any advice on how to check my fuel injectors for problems? please help

22RE's do not have chokes, your problem does not sound like a problem except for your idle being to high. When warmed you should idle at about 850, Do you have the high idle only when cold, or does it do it every time you start it hot or cold?

I think its the water temp operated air bypass valve on the lower side of the intake. I blocked mine off (the air passage in there)once and it ran real crappy when it was cold, hard to start too...I just ended up dealing with the fast idle, mine goes to 2000 rpm untill the temp comes up also. It seems way too high, 1500 or 1000 would be better but I never figured out how to "tune" the valve. I have wondered WTF is up with it for like 5 years...

do some 22re's idle high at startup and others do not?

There's a nut on the backside for adjusting.    Loosen nut, and rotate.......... (take air hoses off so you can see what you're doing)
