89 22RE runnin rich and blubbery at idle
« on: Dec 23, 2008, 07:46:46 AM »
So I'm starting to get quite a bit of soot comin out the tail pipe and the truck has a blubbery idle.  It's definetly runnin fat.  I figured the coolant temperature sensor at first but that usually throws a CEL unless it's just sorta going out and not totally dead?  So this morning I unplugged it and let it run to see what would happen.  No change but it threw a CEL real quick.  So I Turned the truck off and disconnected a battery lead, hooked everything back up and went to key on power for a few secs and then started it up.  CEL is gone but still runnin fat?  Just get a new Coolant temp sensor and try that?  :dunno:

Well, one of those is the temp sender for the ecm, the other is for the cold start injector apparently.  I'm gonna get it running and warm then unplug the cold start injector and see if that's the culprit.

Once I figured out which was the temp sender for the ecm and which was the cold start injector it all worked great!  Got the truck warmed up, unplugged the cold start injector and ran it like that all day!  Ran clean and waaaaay better!  Enough to even break a u-joint lol.

I have been having strange problems just have not had time 2 really get at it.  truck runs rich smells at the exhaust idle s high most of the time some time surges.   it crap out on me 2 day at the mall  sputtered ( loading up dunn) under light pedal.  93 efi

I have a bunch of extra sensors and stuff from the other moter i hate throwing parts at stuff.
