R151F behind a Stroked 5.0L
« on: Jun 04, 2004, 05:02:46 AM »
I finally got my hands on a motor, Its in bad shape But I got it for cheap. I needs a rebuild pretty bad. I talked to SpeedOmotive down here in Covina and they told me they can give me a stroker kit for the 5.0 for $1300, I was going to dump $700 into the rebuild anyway might as well pony up an extra $600 for a stroker. Allumium heads will be mandetory to keep the wieght down a bit. the guy at the shop told me I will be looking hp levels of 350+ and Torque beyond 450+

My qustion is I want to keep my Tranny and Toy boxes. I have a 23 spline R151 (most likely will get rebuilt too) Would the tranny last behind a 5.4L stroker? what if Im light on the gas.

I can grab a built C6 from a buddy of mine but that will result me in loosing my duel boxes, and I dont want to loose them... any ideas?

Well their are thousands of Turbo trannys sitting behind Tacoma 3.4L Supercharged V6s. I would estimate their HP to be near what your looking for, but your engine will definitely have more torque.

But we have never ever seen a blown up Turbo Tranny, ever. We are still waiting to see a wasted one. Even all of the cores that Marlin buys from junk yards to rebuild, he has never seen one bad. This isnt to say that they are bulletproof, but what Marlin always likes to say is "BRING IT AWN! YOUVE GOT A HIGH POWER ENGINE, BRING IT AWN!!" quoted from Marlin there..

Marlin did tell me once that the whimpiest piece in a stock R-tranny is a steel center piece that supports a couple bearings. He's never seen one fail, but cores that he received with high mileage he can see some wear on those pieces, so on every rebuild he has ever done he takes that stock steel piece and modifies it to increase its life expectancy. Sounds like some top secret thing he does, but I guess that's why his trannys are top notch in the world.

can you elabirate just a bit more on this? what does he do? I wounder if he will rebuild a tranny differently from one thats behind a 22r and the other behind a torqy v8.

Negative. He builds transmissions the best he can every time.

I know of about 3 tricks that he does that I have never seen any transmissions have that I've torn apart. So we figure he is maybe the only one doing some certain things in the world (?) Not to say that I've torn apart every transmission in the world but its rather to say that he does some pretty trick ideas.

Of course its his methods that he's developed and therefore its his secrets, but I think we will have to wait until he reads this to elaborate a bit more on that metal piece he modifies..

BigMike
