87 22r in 83
« on: Oct 24, 2007, 07:00:37 PM »
OK so i bought a 83 pickup with a 87 22r motor in it. well nothing is really hooked up. so now i need to plug it all in but not everything matches up so i want to know if other people have done this i have been going over wire diagrams for a while now and i think i can make it work but any advice would be appreciated.. i want to get rid of smog crap too so...   picks are best... what wires go where on alternator two are bolted on an then plug goes in . but where do they both bolt in on ?

one alternator wire is a ground, one goes to the battery

can you use the computer from an 87 truck?

the 87 and 83 22rs were quite different, still similar, but still different too

the 87 probably wont need much... and i think it iwll run without the emissions computer.... not quite sure how to do it....

if you are running the alternator from the 87 though, you will need to do some footwork, the 87 uses an interal reg alt, the 83 used an external... one of the harness plugs comes off the 87 as a power wire, but the same one was a ground wire for the 83.... i found this out after some magic smoke... i put a 22r from an 85 into a 84 22r truck

22rs (carbed, were used in 4x4s even after 85, but it was rare) the 22rs were used in the 2wd toyotas until about 93

i odnt remember what i did, i jsut traced the wires and spliced... to get my int reg alt in, i had to run an extra power wire from the alt to the battery
