firewall tubbing or not?
« on: Nov 08, 2007, 07:33:07 PM »
I called a few shops to get a price on what they charge to tub my firewall, first shop gives the price and tells me that it makes all the difference in the world, called the 2nd shop and they told me not to tub it cuz it wont help that much since you cant go past the body mount but instead move the axle 1.5 forward. so I'm kinda  on which I should do any one have the pros & cons besides lost interior room any thing helps thanx

I had the same problem,  I have the front axle moved foward 1" with tubbing also. The tubbing made a huge difference. No more rubbing. 85, 5" allpros, 2" shackles, 35s

It depends on what springs you have.
Using Toyota Rear springs (center pin 20.5" from front spring eye) I'm running 37" tires with no tubbing and no rubbing.
If your springs did not move your axle forward then either get some that do, or tub it.

I wheel with Toydanota & I have about 3" of lift more than him & my tires rub. We both run 35 BFG Muds. It makes a difference when you have your tires turned & you have the tire stuffed into the fender well. Tub it & trim the fender  :twocents:

I have the stock upper two leaves and added three springs from a pack I found laying around.  I used a torch and the big sledge and beat the snot out of it for about an hour per side.  I run 36 Irocs on 10 inch wheels with 2 inch wwheel spacers. It never touches.  Still have intentions of moving the rears up front, but what I have now works good.  Oh, I do run a bigger shackle too, might make a difference.
