I need some Song help
« on: Oct 24, 2007, 03:56:08 PM »
Hey ya'll,

I want to play a song in memory of my grandmother and my brother at my wedding reception.  I need some song ideas.  I've got a few ideas, but I'm looking for more... Christian/country/rock/whatever.  Preferrably 1 song for the both of them....

Here's what I got so far:

I'll be missin you - P.Diddy
Holes in the Floor of Heaven - Steve Wariner
Cry Out to Jesus - Third Day
With Hope - Steven Curtis Chapman    <Favorite so far
Homesick - Mercyme

TIA!

Go Rest High...Vince Gill with Ricky Scaggs and Patty Loveless

Artist: Gill Vince
Song: Go Rest High On That Mountain
Album: When Love Finds You

I know your life
On earth was troubled
And only you could know the pain
You weren't afraid to face the devil
You were no stranger to the rain

Go rest high on that mountain
Son, you work on earth is done
Go to heaven a shoutin'
Love for the Father and Son

Oh, how we cried the day you left us
We gathered round your grave to grieve
I wish I could see the angels faces
When they hear your sweet voice sing

Go rest high on that mountain
Son, you work on earth is done
Go to heaven a shoutin'
Love for the Father and Son
The things that come to those who wait, may be the things left by those who got there first.

I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.
-- Winston Churchill

Oh man I always loved that one song "If you get there before I do" but I can't remember who sings it off hand.....

EDIT:  It's Collin Raye, and now that I read the lyrics I don't know if it's appropriate for both your grandmother and your brother but I always thought it was such sweet song...you'll all have to just have a listen and decide.  I'll see what else I can come up with.

I have an excellent song for your brother but you better be ready for tears, it is a beautiful song:

Alan Parsons - Brother Up In Heaven lyrics

(bairnson)

A boy flies for freedom
But dies for the peace
In the clouds, he waits for an answer
But there's no release

It's strange here without you
And it's so hard to see
So brother up in heaven
Please wait up for me

Oh brother up in heaven
Please wait up for me

I still see his shadow
His laugh lingers on
When i dream, we're all back together
When i wake, he's gone
It's strange here without you
This was not meant to be
So brother up in heaven
Please wait up for me

And though we try to change the world
A flower when it's cut will surely die
So why do men with so much hate
Destroy what they cannot create
While we all stand by

We will look back in anger
But you helped us to see
So brother up in heaven
Please wait up for me

Oh brother up in heaven
Please wait up for me

No matter how far you fall, the ground will always catch you

Brad Paisley & Dolly Parton:  When I Get Where I'm Going

I bawl like a baby every time I hear it......are we trying to steer clear of sad?   I guess that may be unavoidable.   At least we can try to keep it a beautiful kind of sad.
RIP Kyle, we love and miss you man.  :smooch:

When I get where I'm going
on the far side of the sky.
The first thing that I'm gonna do
Is spread my wings and fly.

I'm gonna land beside a lion,
and run my fingers through his mane.
Or I might find out what it's like
To ride a drop of rain

(Chorus:)
Yeah when I get where I'm going,
there'll be only happy tears.
I will shed the sins and struggles,
I have carried all these years.
And I'll leave my heart wide open,
I will love and have no fear.
Yeah when I get where I'm going,
Don't cry for me down here.

I'm gonna walk with my grandaddy,
and he'll match me step for step,
and I'll tell him how I missed him,
every minute since he left.
Then I'll hug his neck.

(Chorus)

So much pain and so much darkness,
in this world we stumble through.
All these questions, I can't answer,
so much work to do.

But when I get where I'm going,
and I see my Maker's face.
I'll stand forever in the light,
of His amazing grace.
Yeah when I get where I'm going,
there'll be only happy tears.
Hallelujah!
I will love and have no fear.
When I get where I'm going.
Yeah when I get where I'm going.
RIP Kyota.... you are the man

GET IT!!!

Justina here's a link to the song, but seriously if you have lost your brother it will make you cry.

That one is called "Love Me"... and yes, that one makes me cry... yesterday was the 1 year anniversary of my grandmother's death.

Thank you guys for your input and ideas.  I think we're going to play one song for both of them.  I don't want to mention anything, just play it during a downtime at the reception.  The people who their deaths have affected, will hear the song and understand.  I think mentioning the "in memory of" will be a little out of place.  But the song will say it all.

I don't know why you want people crying at your wedding, I'm sure your grandmother and brother were fun loving people. Nothing wrong with remembering them at this joyous time but why not something in their memory but upbeat. I'm sure they wouldn't want your guests all saddened.
