3.0 going down?
« on: Oct 31, 2007, 04:23:47 PM »
Well my 92 toy ext cab 4x4 AT, is going pretty weak right now for some reason. No check engine light or anything. It smells like gas when it rev up or running down the highway. Rev it up sitting still and you can see gas smoke out the tailpipe :o What might be the cause. Had the toyota head gasket recall done around 40 K it has 151K now.

Also check the plugs - you might be not getting a spark on one(though it would be pretty rough running)

check your oil/coolant levels
check for milkshake under the oil cap, and in the valve cover
Pull and check your spark plugs, wires, and distributor cap.

that's a good place to start

mine does exactly what you are describing. I have ZERO compression on number 6. We thought it was a HG at first, but no oil in water, and no water in oil and no crankcase pressure. So we are pretty sure its a bad valve.

It doesn't really sound like a HG problem to me.  like Mr will said, check your compression too
