My New '84
« on: Sep 01, 2007, 11:28:46 PM »
I got an 84 pickup 5spd 22r longbed(not for long). it has 5.29 aussie is soon to be on order. It has 35" all terrains but i'm thinking about a 35 or 36 m/t i don't really like alll terains.

It is slowly leaking oil (i'm 95% sure) i think its coming form the bellhousing area. Is this something common? What is it? It isn't serious leak yet (knocks on wood) just wanted to get it fixed soon.

is it leaking gear oil or engine oil?

its very common for the rear main seal of the 22r engines to leak.... takes about 5 minutes to replace, but the tranny has to be out

um yea,  in most cases   the tranny is usually IN  trucks  when a leak is discovered  :shake:

yea   if its the rear main either the tranny comes out or the engine,  cause the flywheel also must be removed

find out if its  engine oil or smelly gear oil

i think the fluid is actually from the clutch. It could use replacing anyway.

On another note what are y'alls  opinions on paint color, i'm thinking flat back or a flat hunter green w/ black accents i guess.

I'm trying to get ahold of a dig camera to show you guys the truck aswell.

do you mean hydraulic fluid from the clutch line or the fluid is coming from the bellhousing area? the clutch itself doesnt have any fluid.

need to find out what kind of fluid your leaking and where exactly the leak is coming from. if it smells like gear oil, tranny input seal (gotta pull the tranny). if its engine oil, find out if its leaking from the top of the motor in the back (valve cover gasket), or if the top of the bellhousing is clean of oil then its your rear main (again tranny has to be pulled out). if its hydraulic fluid, could be the line from the clutch master cylinder to the clutch slave cylinder, or could be the slave cylinder.

the leak was from my clutch master cylinder, replaced it problem solved.

I just order wheelspacers for it in preparation for new wheels and tires (black steelies with 37'' mt/rs) i'm saving for.

Next is rocksliders, a rear towpoint, hy-steer, and a locker (which end?)

Aussie front, Spool or weld the rear unless you wanna spend some moneys then id buy a detroit. As for color, i dont really like the flat black color. Flat or olive drab green is pretty cool but i like the tan myself. Also yellow is a favorite.

Gotta go for Lello. ;)   Dark blue(almost navy) or dark green(again, darker is better) looks sharp.

it does look pretty good so far. i got the idea from a guy on toyotanation.com who constantly changes colors but i liked the look of his and it's cheap and easy to do so i went with it. i'll put some pics up some time. i'm still waiting on my MC HD ceramic clutch to get here so painting is about the only thing i'm doing with my truck now.
lets not and say we did.
