2001 4Runner Starting Glitch
« on: Oct 23, 2007, 08:18:43 AM »
So a few times, and not regular at all, when I turn the key nothing happens, not even a click, then turn it a second time and it starts right up.

This has only happened like 3 times out of 100 starts, but I am wondering if this is the start of a bigger problem, starter possibly?

Could be your contacts in the starter.  Contacts are easy to replace and are cheap, so the plunger while your at it.  Also make sure that you are all the way in park if an auto, had an issue like this with my Subaru, if not all the way up in park it would not start.

if it was the contacts and plunger you would still hear a click, the plunger smacking the contact. sounds more like a wiring issue.

Dude I have the new MAC ET50-OBDII Code Reader, just fer this situation. Just plug it in and read the code or codes if the case may be. It will tell you whats wrong and how to reset if needed
