85 4runner clutch
« on: Aug 15, 2007, 06:30:14 PM »
I need to replace my clutch in my 85 runner this weekend, haven't been able to find any great write ups.  So far I just have my haynes repair manual to go off of... if anybody has done this and has any advice or knows where a good write up is, that would be great!  thanks for any time and advice given :usa:

First of all, thanks for your service to this country.

Just finished replacing mine a month ago. One man job with the right tools. You will have to lower the transmission from in the truck. You can do it the hillbilly way with a couple cinder blocks, ratchet straps, and a 2 x 4 of use an engine hoist. Only need basic tools except a really long extension and a slide hammer with fingers to remove the pionio bearing. Unbolt the transfer case and the transmission mounts first so the esntire unit swings down. That will make it easier to reach the top two bolts on the bellhousing. Good luck!

Hey might as well put dual cases in since you have it apart...

And thanks for your service to this country

thanks for the love on the service... I'm thinking i'm going to use a small jack and some 2x4's to hold the tranny up, we'll see how it works, i'm playing that part as I go lol... about the dual cases, i need the truck up and running by sunday night/ monday morning, so I have to keep it to the things I need lol, but I just keep thinking of how perfect of a time it would be lol... thanks for the help
