« on: Aug 09, 2007, 09:19:21 PM »
i started my 63" chevies tonight and got one side done... i think it looks pretty good but i don't really like the way the rear is moved back, i put my front spring hanger 8.5 inches forward and im running the dual shackle setup .... i think i got around 3 inches out of it... it should perform well hopefully tomorrow i will get the other side done and see what it does... what do u guys think???

i put my front spring hanger 8.5 inches forward
And here is the reason it is moved back.

The hanger is supposed to be moved 11" forward.

OH SNAP!!!! I hope you don't have to cut your hanger off and move it. :sheerterror: That would suck.

The front hanger should be 11" forward from stock measuring eye to eye.
The rear shackle hanger should be between 4 and 5" back from stock eye to eye.
Ditch the double shackle and mount a 5" shackle 5" back from stock and it'll all work out. :twocents:

You could always cut your fenders & be happy with your longer wheel base & better departure angle  :gap:

id like to try the dual shackle and see how it works. so if i mount it 11" forward it should be in line and my shackle angle shoudl be alright?? i don't need to do anything with my d-shaft do i?

You will move the front hanger 2.5" forward, that means your rear will move 2.5" forward. Move it first & see what happens. It might be good, you might have to weld a shackle hanger  :crossed:

I like them  It has a smooth ride & the flex is good. Here is a pic right after the springs were put on with 33's. The pic in my avtar has 35's.

Don't the 3rd gen trucks have longer stock rears than the 2nd gens  :headscratch:? If this is true like I think it is, then double check your rear spring lengths between the stocks and the chevies and adjust accordingly to keep your axle center in the stock location by comparing lengths from spring eye center to center pin location at both ends of the springs (chevies are centered and toys are offset).
I thought I read somewhere also that 3rd gens are located like 9.5 or 10 inches forward as you mentioned but you'll have to do some measuring for sure. Measure twice weld once. Maybe this will help... :dunno:

Get rid of that double shackle.  When I had 63's, I had a double shackle on it and I hated it.  They were very unpredicatable when they would unload.

Tallchevy350;    I bought my truck with chevies already installed. Did you have to remove any leafs ?  How about the loop that holds the pack together ?  I get a good ride on the road but they seem kinda stiff to me off ?? What length shackels are you running in that rear ?

Loops are still in place as with the leafs. I think it's a 2" or 3" Chevy lowering shackle flipped as a lift shackle. My shocks are mounted /\ & I'm running the RS9000 9 positions so I can adjust the ride. Here is the link to the gallery
