22R Question
« on: Aug 09, 2007, 07:42:15 AM »
I have an 84 4runner with the 22R in it.  I am not sure if it is the org 22r (with the 160k on it, or if it was rebuilt, or a replacement 22r was put in) and i want to make sure that the 87 EFI set up that i have will bolt right up.  So, here are my questions:

1.  How can i tell if i have a long or short deck?  What is the difference?

2.  The 22r motor i have runs great, i just want the EFI, so i want to bolt the EFI intake onto the 22r motor (If that will work).  I have read that it will work on the newer 22r's that are the "short deck", but not on the older 22r's that are the "tall deck" (is this correct)?

3.  I have not herd the EFI motor run, so is it worth the trouble to try and get it running first and if it sounds good, just swap the whole motor in (the 22r i have has an oil leak from the front of the motor.  I am not sure where it is coming from but it gets sprayed all over the motor, i have been told it is common that the timing chain cover gets worn thru and that is the cause of the leak)

Thanks for the help
Cheers!
Jay

1.  take a pic of the drivers side of the block  near the motor mount  and i can tell you,   the deck is  different  and head

2.  just put theefi  intake on your head,  dont remove your head, 160,000 on a 22R  is just broken in

3.    keep it  for later,  but dont worry about it

Here is the best pic i can get of the drivers side.  Let me know if you need any others!  Hopefully i will be able to bolt the EFI manifold right up!  Hopefully it is a short deck , so the whole swap works.  The only other thing i need is the computer, wiring, and the gas tank off the doner truck, correct???

Thanks again for the help,

Jay

So, if it has that mark it is the short block, and i can mount the EFI intake where the carb intake is.  If i dont see that which i am not sure i will b/c the truck is an 84 (and i am assuming that it is the org engine), and i think the 84 22R was a tall block.  So, if i dont see that marking, i will have to swap in the whole motor from the doner truck, correct?
