BKM for sealing transfer cases?
« on: Jun 27, 2007, 07:33:18 PM »
What do you guys do for a perfect transfer case seal? :dunno:

I have the Marlin Gasket & seal set ready to go, but do I use that alone? Or add some type of RTV in addition to that? :dunno:

The first time I used only gaskets, that didn't work very well.... :help:

I have used Ultra Grey...it worked OK.  Then I used permatex Anaerobic Sealer and the primer that goes with it.  Spendy, and better, but still leaks.  Maybe it would work better out of the truck with time to cure. :dunno:

edit: BTW, what is BKM?

I use Permatex High Temp RTV (the Orange) and it doesnt leak at all. If not I used The Right Stuff last time and it didnt leak either. The first time i had the MCI gasket and the second i only used the RTV

Do you let it cure first, or put them together wet?

If you were asking that b/c of what I posted, I meant it as time to cure (bolted together) before adding oil and running it.

I like using Permatex Ultra Blue silicone but where I work now we don't use it. Lately I have been using 3M Aerospace grade grey silicone & I have never had a problem :twocents:
