an elocker isnt going to fit into a 1st gen axle without modifying the axle housing itself

Your not going to find a 4:88 either, check on ebay I got both of mine off ebay. the mods to the housings look easy enough, it won't work on a 7.5" axle, has to be 8" Also the 86 and later rear axles are wider.

I have a pair going in my heap with Yukon 4:88's and solid pinion spacers

i saw what has to be done for the high pinion e locker on this site...looks manageable enough. will my current 4.88s work on the e locker 3rd member too? man they are expensive! 900 bucks from marlin! wow...my axle is an 8inch

no you have to use v6 gears and the master kit to install them is different also, I have the part numbers for the yukon parts the ring and pinion is
yg tv6-488 and the install kit is yk tacoma-loc I got mine from performance off road center p.o.r.c. they sell them on ebay I paid 700.00 for 2 of each including shipping, cheepest I found for yukon parts thier are others out there that cost less but are not as good. I also got the solid pinion spacers from marlin, I like the set it and forget it
that price was for standard rotation gears, the high pinion e-locker can use reverse rotation gears but they cost more.

the nice thing about the selectable locker is the ability to unlock it for turning. The detroit will bind in turns and what you will find is you will go straight instead of turning, especially while going down hill, and that is not a good thing. I will have 2 buttons on my dash that will let me lock or unlock at will, also since my rig will be a daily driver when they are unlocked I will have a regular open diff. then when they are locked I will have 2 spools. As for the cost marlin sells e-lockers with 4:88's and solid pinion spacers for 1300.00 each when I'm done with mine I will have 1300.00 in the pair
