Common Ground Issue?
« on: Jan 14, 2007, 09:07:14 AM »

1985 4Runner 22R-E

I have no 4wd indicator light on my instrument cluster (bulb is good)

No reverse lights

And the left side of my gauge cluster does not work – well the temp gauge works sometimes usually in the first :30 min of driving and the oil pressure gauge does not work.

I have bench tested the gauges and they work according to the FSM diags.

I have replaced all the sending units with the appropriate Toyota parts.

I have grounded the firewall to the engine block

I have jumped the ground on the “working” side of the cluster to the non-working side – No change

What next? Is there a common ground that I am missing?

Thoughts suggestions?

Check to see if the ground strap from the engine to the firewall is intact. That is the most common thing that will cause the intrument cluster to go nuts.

No matter how far you fall, the ground will always catch you

That was one of the first I things I did. The firewall is grounded.
