I think it is for the knock sensor under the intake manifold on the block

Coolant temp sensor?

Quote
Question -
We just installed a rebuilt 22RE in our 4Runner and have a mystery wire we believe (according to a wire chart) is a two wire lead to a "thermo sw".  Wire is in the loom between the #2 and #3 injectors i.e. central intake manifold, but we can't find the "thermo sw" to hook it to.  Any help would REALLY be apprecisted.

I think what you are talking about is the water temp sensor fot the ECU, it should be located on the thermostat housing, it has two pin connectors, the connector from the wire harness should be green and has two wires, I do not have a 1988 wiring diagram but I have one for a 4cyl 1990, the wire colors are different to the sensor.

Most of the knock sensor connectors I've seen are yellow and look similar to this. It does appear to be a coolant temp sensor connector but should be routed more to the top of the engine. look around, no sensors disconnected. Often times the matching connector will be the same color as well. hope this helps

When my son brings the 85-runner back later tonight I will look & see if I can find that connector in my harness. Comes off the bundle near the oil sender? Same bundle that goes to the starter & 4wd senders?

Yes it is in that same area.

The knock sensor is yellow and attached but this green one is just sitting there not connected to anything and it does not look like there is anyting for it to connect to.

BTW on the 4wd senders are both the white pieces pluged into something? On mine, of the two "female" ends only one has something plugged into it.

Let me know what yours looks like.

Thanks!
