Power steering question
« on: Jan 12, 2007, 08:38:01 PM »
Bought a nice rebuilt pump on ebay and yes the pump works great but I have to warm things up before I have any power steering any thoughts? The pump does have a slight whine.

Thanks

are you using atf fluid or power steering fluid, my fj60 land cruiser whines like mad and spews fluid all over the place, but when i put ATF in it (which is what the manual calls for ) it runs fine with no leaks or noises. thats my :twocents:

I got an IFS box for my high steer install off of an 88 truck. When I first hooked it all up and filled it with automatic trans fluid, it whined when i turned the truck on and started moving the wheel. after about 5 minutes it stopped, and hasnt made any noise since. i had drained it and filled it up with ATF because that was all i had. still running it like that, though im going to flush it here eventualy and refill it with power steering fluid. the whine should go away after a little while.

I use valvoline synthetic power steering fluid. Once it warms up it starts having power steering especially on cold mornings

power steering fluid will destroy the seals in your system. Use  approved DEXRON ATF only

Mine developed a leak a couple years ago, found the same oil (if it's the stuff that's supposed to fix leaks) and it doesn't leak near as much anymore, barely any really
