v-6 Tranny swap
« on: Dec 22, 2006, 05:37:11 PM »
Ok, here's the deal,,,   My current toy is a SAS'ed 90 4-runner V6, automatic.  I'm buying a 94 4-runner tomorrow.  It's a V6 with a 5 speed and will be my daily driver,,, for now!  I want to swap the auto and the manual tranny's.  Will I need anything that I won't have on both trucks? Will the computers swap between years?  It will be nice to have two complete vehicles to work with.  Anybody have any info?
You can't get there from here!

May want to reach out. I have heard the automatic engines dont have the room for the pilot bearing in the crankshaft. I dont know for a fact but check into it.  ??? ??? ???

I'va actually read somewhere that you can buy an insert that presses into the crank so you can put in a pilot bearing :dunno:   don't take my word for it, I'm gonna look through my stuff and see if I can find it.

Other than that, you should be good to go.   I think if you wsap the computer and the tranny, you'll be good.  You may have to rig up a nuetral safety switch, which I can't help you with, but I'm sure someone on here can.

I have never seen a north americian 3.0 that will not accept a pilot bearing.

Grey market engines are another subject.

I trust you will not have any issues with the pilot bearing.
