antifreeze drips out muffler
« on: Dec 10, 2006, 07:44:26 PM »
i have finally finished the rebuild of my 22re, but now i have a fair antifreeze leak out the exhaust. normally i would think this would be a head gasket failure, but since i had the head checked out and plained, i can only think of two things

1. the lower intake is not sealing allowing coolant to leak into the cylinders (this seems to be a good possibility because the lower intake was also leaking around the pipe that leads to the heater hose)

2. the egr gas cooler is not sealing. this, if you don't already know, is the cast iron plate on the rear of the head that pre-cools the exhaust gases before they go through the egr valve.

So i *think* i have it narrowed down, but i am a little suspicious because i already fixed leaks in these two areas. maybe i just didn't fix them well enough.

Any ideas, or opinions??
Thank you
Chase

i just thought of something

Like i said it was leaking in these areas before, so the muffler could be full of antifreeze since it was dripping out of it, right? or are they not sealed that well?
