Would this be the same thing as the fuel cut solenoid?

So i decided to give it one last try before the truck goes out monday to the shop. I checked the grounds and cleaned all of them. I'm puttin the weber back on(stock carbs are way to confusing  :hammer: ) the truck runs now but wont go above 2000 rpm without backfireing and if it goes below 2000 rpms it just cuts out and dies. any suggestions or info on why this might be happening  :dunno:  (stock carb was just rebuilt totally)

I know this sounds stupid, but are you sure your plug wires are in the right firing order? An old mechanic showed me one time that if you have trash in you carb you can swap two plug wires and crank the motor, and it will backfire through the carb and clear out the trash. I have had to do this several times and with the wires crossed it runs exactly how you describe yours. Maybe someone swapped your wires as a joke? We used to do this to people back in high school.

Anyways, If it won't run right with a fairly new weber, I don't think your problem is the carb. Definately sounds like an ignition or timimg problem to me. Most of the coil/igintor problems I've seen the truck would not run at all. Backfiring is a sure sign of a timing issue. I would check all things timing related.

Maybe even check the cam timing? I have seen chains jump a tooth and run like crap too.

Check cam timing, firing order, plugs for black soot or wet fuel fouled and maybe even your distributor to see if ther is any loose play in the shaft that could cause a missfire at high rpm.
