35 Spline upgrade?
« on: Jun 12, 2006, 07:46:49 PM »
Ok here is the situation, I am putting a dana 60 under the front of my toyota truck, I am keeping the stock 4 cyl. and I am running dual cases with 4.7 in the rear case. I have to buy new hubs and I am trying to decide if I should upgrade to the 35 spline stub shafts. I have been told by some people that I should be fine with the stock axles since I am keeping the 4 cyl. I am also looking to run 39's. What do you guys think I should do?

   Thanks for the help.

Might as well get the 35 spline so you arent getting two sets of different hubs. Once you decide you want bigger axles.

dont even attempt it, just go 35 spline outers and hubs. You'll thank yourself when your not changing stub shafts on the trail.

my buddy broke his stock 30 spline stub shaft with a 22re, stock dual cases, 6.17 axle gears and 39.5 inch swapmers.  It seemed like it didn't take much to break either.  he upgraded to 35 spline stuff and wheeled it hard with no axle breakages.  go with the 35 spline stuff for sure.

If ya gotta buy new parts, you might as well buy stronger parts. Are you running hubs or are you going to go drive flanges? I bought 35 spline spicer outers, spicer u-joints, and S+N Fab flanges and I am right about $400. Hubs tend to be a bit more.

Thanks for the input guys, I was leaning more toward the 35 spline in the first place but it will cost a little more up front.

Hyena, did your friend keep the stock inners and what u-joint is he running?

I am also planning on running hubs because I want to be able to drive it on the street some and by that I mean over to a buddies house 5 miles down the road not on the interstate or anything like that. Correct me if I am wrong but isn't it better to run hubs if you are going to be on the street? I also found a guy on pirate that sells yukon 35 spline cromoly's for around $195 and I believe shipping is included in that price, can that price be beat?

 Thanks Again.

Most guys like hubs for street use. Depending on your diff, it's no big deal. From the factory, GM, Dodge, and many others sold trucks that had drive flanges.

stock shafts are pretty tough to break, im running a stock front 60 with 40" MTRS and dodge outters, gay external hubs. anyways i blow hubs before shafts, that will change when i get my 42" Iroks on. Just get the drive flanges or warn 35 spline hubs with some good 4340 alloy stubs. try not to go to cheap on the u-joints, if you spit one it could chew up your ears. also are your inner shafts neck down, if not continue to run those and just buy stubs. you wont likely break an inner. Good luck with the shopping, its spendy but last penny you could spend
85 SR5, ARBs, Hi-steer, 35" Krawlers...has most of the right parts

Thanks guys for all the input. I ordered 35 spline yukon stubs and I am going to try the spicer forged u-joints as well as a drive flange kit from extreme axle.
