« on: Jul 17, 2007, 07:33:24 PM »
Greetings,  I am new to crawling and am looking to purchase my first rig...

here is the setup:

4.0L inline 6, 120k miles with new fuel injectors
original tranny with heavy duty/high performance clutch
8inch lift (35+ inches of articulation)
front straight axle, chromoly 4 link
4:56 gears front and rear
full custom roll cage
dana 44 rear
detroit lockers
custom chromoly 6 link rear
35 bfg mudders, new on 15x8 wheels
air adjust rear end with compressor
a/c

all for $5000.00

am i not asking any important questions?  am i getting a good deal?  if so, i would appreciate the feedback, and maybe ill see you on the trail!

what is the front a d30 ? what year is the majority of the rig?  If it is a d30 that could be something to drop the price on.

i would also get under the rig and see what kind of condition the rig is in.  I wouldn't take it for face value.  Also who did the custom work?  If it was a shop you should be fine, if it was an individual I would check their welds and their stats on other builds.   It is nice to have all the bells and whisles if they work right but if not that could be a huge headache for you not knowing what kind of skills you have.

Mabye its a jeep thing, mabye I'm an idiot (mabye its both) but what the heck is a 6 link rear end?  :headscratch:  I've never heard of that.

If you are new to crawling, I would honestly recommend a lesser built rig.  ITs nice to get into a wqell built one right off, but I wouldn't trade the experience I've had building mine for anything.  When something goes wrong, I know exactly what it is most of the time, and where to go about fixing it, because I put it in there. I know the important stuff has been done right, and I've really enjoyed the time I've spent working on it, both alone, and with buddies.

On top of that, you'll learn quite a bit wheeling a lesser built vehicle.  If you start off with all the bells and whistles, and something goes wrong, you could quickly be up :pokinit: creek w/o a paddle, since yo udon't have experience to lean on.

That would be the average price for even a mildly built rig, I'd really take a good look at it for that price. Sounds like it may have some issues that the owner is trying to rid himself of.

I would love to help, but I'm not a jeep guy. I don't get this it's a jeep thing. I think for a wheeler a toyota is the way to go, if your trying to build a truck on a budget.

What are we talking about here? XJ, TJ, ZJ ...? What year ? Post pics of this thing... Cause alot of sounds made up, like the seller has no idea what he's selling. 6 link rear huh, interesting.... 8" lift is way to much for 35's.. Straight axle front huh... unless its a KJ or a WK every jeep produced has a SFA. So its got air bags in the rear ? Again pics please... here is my 2cents. Pass on this thing, get yourself a stock rig and learn how to wheel it, break it, and repair it. Then either build that or buy something thats built. Getting into a rig that is built( for the parking lot or trail) is gonna make you think you could go anywhere and do anything and your going to end up getting hurt.just my opinion.

maybe the 6 link is what offers the 35+ inches of articulation. maybe its two 3 links, or a 1 link and a 5 link. its a good price for a tj, but not for an xj, its kinda right in line for a yj though.

Well, first off 8" of lift is WAY too much for 35" tires. You can make the D30 survive on 35's, if you build it right.  I'd need to see a lot of pics of the undercarriage and whole jeep before making a decision on if its a good idea.

Wow pics would be nice,  I think the price sounds a little high, not sure what a six link is, maybe the guy was counting rod ends.  35in of articulation is not what you should be getting out of a lift that tall I can get close to that im a stock tj.  Definatly put some pics up and it will be alot easier to tell ya what your getting into!

Or maybe he was tryin to write an add for his own add creation and wanted to see how it was taken, since everyone made fun of his 8 link rear end he decided not to come back?
