i was corcerned cuz the buggy will be about 2800 lbs i havent purcased a trailer yet so ad that plus a bunch of gear and spares i think  taco might be a long stretch for slowing down on passes or pulling up long hills might be bad for clutch expecially staring with all that weight behind it

I have also been wondering about towing my 4runner on a trailer with my Tacoma. I love my Tacoma but would mostly be concerned about the brakes, trailer brakes would be a must!

It sounds like you need a bigger truck.  You will be happier in the long run.  You can count on a 16' car trailer to be anywhere from 1300-1500lbs.

i was always told not to rely on trailer brakes because they are mechanical nad just like any other machanical device they can fail, then if ur truck's brakes arent large enough for the weight of both ur up a  :pokinit:  creek with out a paddle

this is true,   trailer brakes  are to aide your truck brakes,

i have towed short distances  with my 79  with heavily modified 22R  but  only SHORT distances,  at slow speeds

for continueous towing  a V8  is needed, or at least a LARGE inline 6

Cheap reliable DD/Tow rig is an older Ford diesel with the IDI engine.  Post up in the tow rig section down below, and we'll point you in the right direction.

For frequent towing, Toyota just doesn't make anything big enough *YET*

what is an idi engine, is it a non turbo model?, ineed good milage, i am keepin my eyes on a few juck yards for newer gm, ford, dodges with small v-8 i really dont want a diesel. i do love diesel's but the maintanance and fuel is so much more, i will find a good rig i am not worried about it i still need to pay off my 94 single cab at 29.99% interest right now it's at 4500.00 and it has 170,000 22re i hate my inerest rate
