7 inch spring shackles
« on: Jun 12, 2006, 10:27:58 AM »
Are 7 inch long (bolt to bolt) shackles stupid long for the rear springs?  I have two reasons for going this long...1) with my heavy rear bumper I'm 1 inch lower in the rear than the front 2) I have driveshaft vibration when I'm coasting which tells me my rear pinion angle is slightly too low.

I have 5 inch shackles now.  By going to 7 inch shackles I can lift the rear 1 inch and hopefully cure my vibes.  I don't know if 7 inch long shackles are stupid though.

Well, if the ideal of excluding the lesser equipped (stock or otherwise) is accepted... there is no fundamental difference between that and a Sierra CLub ideal of exclusion. If we cannot embrace the 4wheel users as a whole. We are not fighting for access. I cannot be that shortsighted

:yesnod:

Longer shackles arent a problem, if this is a DD/street driven, just be aware that it is going to increase sway in the rear. Not a huge deal, but take it easy in the corners until you get it felt out.

If you aren't going all the way, why even go at all?
