1984-88(carb)G52 or G54 trannys have a forward shifting T-case( T-case shifter base on back of Trans). 1985-88( EFI ) W56 trans have a top shifting T-case( t-case shift on top of t-case). 1989-95( EFI with gear driven T-case) W56 with forward shifting T-case and the Tran/T-case shifter base is one piece. 1986-87 (Turbo EFI) R151F  is like a G52/54 but is much bigger and has a 2" hole in bottum of the bellhousing. 1979-83 have several different ones but all are mostly cast iron with removeable and nonremovable bellhousings, they are shorter, If this is a early truck I'll can go farther on those. There is also a G58 and a R150F but they have chian drive T-cases.

I am currently working on expanding the transmission and tcase information on Marlin's web site. In the next week we will have inside and outside photos of each major tranny models as well as an online tranny guide.

The G52 and G54 will look the same but the G54 as bigger bearings. They can be configured to work but a dual case always uses a top shift rear case. The front case will depend on the trans your running. The ratios are to close to tell. The W56 as a 3.95 1st. while the G54 is a 3.93 1st. the rest are the same.

what i gather is if i use the tcase of the w56 for the rear case and use my trans and t case i am runing(g52 or g54) i should be ok.or i could use the w56 instead of my trans if it will bolt to my tcase.

If your running the G52/54 then the t-case behind this trans will be the front "crawle box" and the t-case behind your W56 will be the rear t-case. The W56 is the better trans fo these but it will require 2 top shift case's for build your dual setup.

Yes. You'll need the complete setup which will have the 2 shift rods and the L/N/H shift fork and the 2wd/4wd shift block. You will also nee our billet shift handle base kit( it will bolt down were the tin cover is now on top of you case).
