Meanwhile the rains produced rushing waterfalls in the foothills. The current was so fierce it unraveled part of the four-lane portion of Highway 168. Officials say there's just so much water coming down this mountain with such high intensity, that it eroded a whole chunk of the highway.Officials say the portion of the highway could be closed for months. Geologists have been called in to examine the area and determine if it will be safe to reopen in the future. Meanwhile, foothill residents have to use Auberry or Tollhouse roads into or out of the Shaver Lake area. Foothill residents say it's the drenched roads, as opposed to rising water, that pose the biggest danger to them. Fortunately, there haven't been any major wrecks on the foothill roads today, and no one was hurt when the road collapsed.
