Summit Racing Seat
« on: Apr 09, 2006, 11:55:43 PM »
since my seat is fubar, i have been looking for a comfrotable replacement... i was thumbing through a summit catalog, and found a $30 plastic seat for race cars that says it can be comfortable enough for a street car.....

whats everyone think of them? if i get one, i will get the cover for it as well.....
they have a standard model, and then an upgraded version also

I know it sounds kind of bad, but go down to 4WP or a 4x4 shop around you and sit in a few. Figure out what type of seat your ass fits in and what materials you do and do not like. Price it there, go online to save money, and if it is still too much find something comparable in a generic brand. That seems to work pretty well. I'm not sure I would want to DD in a truck with a plastic seat, but maybe if you line the seat with foam or something, that would work and would be cheap. Put the foam under the cover and maybe it will work and look good. Good luck.

hard seats like that or Kirkey aluminum ones can work pretty nicely in a race car or something, but in a DD, especially a truck, it will drive you crazy and proably cause cramps and back problems and stuff.

I have them in my dd just had the girl put in some lawn cushions into the seat covers they come with and they are fine. Give you lots of room in the cab too.

Man, I wouldn't want to sit in one of those for too long :headshake:  I get tired of hard plastic in about 15 minutes.  why not go look in a junkyard?

I bought a set similar to those for my sandrail. I haven't finished the project yet, so I can't speak to long duration butt time. One thing I do know is they sit kind of straight up and down. I'm going to have to build my brackets so that the seat sits very reclined to be comfortable, and with no adjustable back, you get what you get.
If you do decide to do it, I found mine on ebay. They're Hunsaker and came in a pair with the cushioned covers and were about $150 to my door.

I still think mine are great, i got the cloth camo seat covers from summitt. You should build your own brackets tho. i used the stock sliders with angleiron to mount the the floor. works fine and I drive 100 miles a day in my truck.
