What to use for brake lines?
« on: Jan 14, 2006, 06:04:46 PM »
When I tore apart my solid axle to rebuild it getting ready for my SAS I broke the hard lines that come directly off the caliper. I will ber switching to V6 calipers and I have new soft lines that comes with Marlins kit. But what should I use to replace the broken hard lines that go from the caliper to the soft line?  :dunno:  I doubt any parts stores carry those and I dont even want to know what the dealer would charge. I just had to spend $60 on a crappy piece of plastic fan shroud. :shake_head: from the dealer. Are there any "universal" lines that I can buy?

The best thing would be to try junkyards if you have any close. I can look in my stash also because I might have one

Your right RHG,you wont find the bent line at the part store. You can get a piece roughly the same but you'll have to bend it.It would cost you about the same as one already bent from marlin. If I'm not mistaken I think marlin get's his from toyota. So it should be about the same price at the dealer.

just get one of those small lengths of it at a parts store and bend it.  If it is too long bring it to my house and i'll cut and flare it for you

Thanks Jim. I didnt even look on marlins. Didnt think they would carry that. I have had bad expericiences with trying to bend brake lines and get them to fit. Deff worth 4.99 + shipping to get the ones from Marlin.

I'm in NorCal. Ya, my fan decided to eat my shroud cause the bolt holes were heat baked and cracked. Then...I dunno if its related but a few days later my water pump took a poo poo. I wonder if that shroud was too big of a bite for it and messed up the bearing. :dunno:

I'd guess the failing water pump bearing caused the fan blades to come into contact with the shroud...

Shrounds don't normally just jump off their mounts...
