what make and model is your header?  Are the air injection flanges that point up welded on?  Early trucks used the up and down injection setup, while later trucks used the straight in ones.  If the up and down flanges are welded on then you got the wrong header.  If they are not welded on then remove them.  In reality the air injection ports on the header flange are in the same place either way.

If im reading this incorrectly and you have a header that has ports that go in from the side, and need ports that go in from the top, then check with Downey, they sell adapters

ya... you hit the nail on the head. they are welded on.. i'm thinking i can just get a diffrent tube set up from pick and pull instead of reordering the header. (its the 2 one they have sent me that is wrong ) its the right header for the model and year... just wrong smog set up. its a thoreley header. everything else fits great.

You may have to fanagle that pipe on, as some have different hookups there at the back of the head.

When you install the header, make sure you put a washer behind any of the three center holes you use.  Note that when installed, these nuts have no support, but instead a gap between the head and flange.  Hence the washer.  Otherwise you have a chance of warping the header by just torquing it down.

On my 84 I just tapped those tubes and installed bolts.  On the other end coming from the smpg pump you would just beable to hear the air coming out.

There should be two holes pointing straight up, that go into the header, turn, and go into the head.  The other four are the bolt holes for the injection tube flange bolts.  On the two holes that go into the head, tap them, then thread a bolt in.  Plugs them off for now, and can be reopened later for use
