83 and 85 front axle

Are they the same if not what are the differences.

The 84-85 axle has an upper truss, the 79-83 does not.

So all brakes, backing plates, and centerlink, are the same.

I have had both. I think the only difference besides the gusset is the length of the wheel studs.

84-85 have a full truss across the bottom 82-83 have a partial truss only goes half way across the bottom and 81 and older have no truss.
89 ext cab sas with diamond +4 1/2" housing 30 spline longs and hub gears, hp elocker, six studs, arp studs in everything, taco rear with elocker. swaped out 22re for 3.4l supercharged, urd 2.0" pulley, urd fuel management, downey headers, flowmaster, cold air intake, marlin clutch that is straining to hold up

You can get a truss from Marlin, Sky or any number of places for around $30, so if somebody is sellin you one and asking more for the newer axle(which is usually how it goes) then buy the 83 axle and weld on the truss yourself.

79-83 and then 84-85  diffrence in hubs (not the locking part) earlyer ones had rotors that bolted on
