Whats a better tire?
« on: Sep 26, 2005, 07:31:20 PM »
I need a opinion?

I live in the east coast and I trail ride in mud constanly.

I run 35x14.50 cut boggers in the rear on 15in beadlock

for the front i did have same 35x14.50 non-cut bogger in the front and the problem is I keep breaking axle,
Trust me I've went 3 sets of long fields and now on the Birfield eliminator.

Warn hubs replace the wimpy aisan crap or whatever.

I am an toss up for the tall skinny tire.

My best size is the Q78x15

there are two of the them that i like and they are:

Super Swamper TSL or the original buckshot mudder

Help me out here, what is your all opinion and tell my why.

In case your wondering, I have a 1988 pickup with the V6 3.0, V6 tranny and single t/c.  I have the SAS converison the front axle and I run 4.10 gears with a detroit locker front and back, birfield eliminator with ctm u-joints, warn hubs.

The the thing about the boggers is that I can't steer to well in the mud.

So, I very rarely see rock crawling, It is buit to go on sloppy muddy trial in the east coast!

So, if anybody have one of these tires that I about to purchase, just need to know what is the best all-around tire and including snow also.

I ran 38x12.5 tsl's for a looong time and they worked awesome in the muddy trails.  Dont be afraid of the size as they only measure out as a true 36. ;)
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

MTR's are not good in the mud at all.  They are more for the rock/street tire.  get tsl's and be done with it.  And if money is not an issue, get the 30 spline longfields and switch back over the the aisin hubs.  Have the hubs drilled and redowed by Hendrix.  they will be much stronger then the warn hubs.

Seriously if you are breaking that much shiat with only 35's and mud your doing something wrong! Like the skinny pedal? Damnit man, keep that axle alive. Fix your gears for one, and what Hyena said forget replacing :pokinit:, go Chromo's Go with a swamper tire... I think WT got a good idea. The SX's look like they would love to eat mud.

To answer your question on which tire to get. Well, I live in Alabama and it gets pretty nasty down here during the winter , not a lot of "mudholes" just very slick muddy trails. I have ran TSL's , SX's, and Buckshots but never any boggers. The swampers have a little better flotation if you run a lot of mud "holes" , but if your like me and just run muddy trails then I definately like the buckshots better. The buckshots have WAY better steering and work better on side hills. Another thing I didn't like about the swampers is that they are awesome when they're new , but when they get about half tread they suck. The buckshots still do good when they get a little wear.
I not knocking the swampers and I would buy another set , but for the terrain here I liked the buckshots better.

I really don't play in the mud holes, there boring.

I fact I know I ain't doing anything wrong for breaking axles, the only thing I break is the birfield and the hub, the rest of it holds up, I don't baby my rig and I mean I run it balls to the wall.

Well I already got the warn hubs and birfield eliminator put in and waiting to figure out the right tire.

Those 38 in tsl have weak side walls and I know a few people that run on beadlocks and they always blow off the inside bead.
But if I run 38 or bigger I would defintly get 17in or bigger wheels to stiff the inner side wall.

Dude, I don't know what your doin, but I run 35x15x15 TSL swampers with the same set-up except for 4.56 gears. I play in the rocks, mud, and anywhere else I can thrash on my truck, and am yet to brake something....knock on wood.... however I have had MTR's and they are great on the rocks, street, and snow they do not perform in the mud as well as the interco tires. I love the width, and flotation that they provide.

I find it fun to try to climb 15' to 20' foot river banks, like 90 degree striaght up, I hardly have any weight in the rear and with boggers they don't bite as hard when i get my front end on top which is dry soil.  so i've seen skinny tractor tires go way better than anything else but i can't get a 35in tall tractor

I know its different but where Im from, its like a different world.

I've gone to tellico and badlands several times and went just about everywhere fine, I take it very hardcore, I always roll from front to back, not sideways, i've trashed my rig million times times

Yeah, not trying to be an ass like people on Pirate but do some searching on this subjet, its like a "oh not this again" question. I hope you find the perfect tire for your needs.
