High idol???
« on: Oct 04, 2005, 11:30:37 PM »
Well my truck ran fine, 87 22re, and then iinstalle dmy dual ultimate last weekend and all teh udden the idle has gone up. Weird part is that it starts out at around 900, so not bad, and then itll slowly rise to a peak of about 1500. In beetween that time itll jump rapidl like from 1500-1000, as if i were reving it, but im not. I dont know what to think of it?? Runs fine still just would like my idol to be ware it is suposed to be.

Thanks,

Damen

If the shaft on the butterfly is worn it may stick, if the return spring is weak it will also not return to idle position. Idle above ~1000 rpm will cause the fluctuation you are describing. If the throttle shaft is not returning to it's rest (idle) position, the idle will be above 1000rpm causing the flucuation. I believe your year has a dashpot (I think that is what it is called) that softens the return of the throttle shaft at idle (below & in front of throttle linkage), that can also be out of adjustment & possibly cause the problem. I am sure others will have other causes that I haven't thought of.

Sounds like TPS bigtime, but I don't know what that would have to do with installing duals... :dunno:

Throttle
Position
Sensor
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5
