We run hydraulic pumps on isuze diesel hop trucks with no issues.  I think the biggest thing to consider is the rpm range.  But beings your diesel Id say go for it.  Just be sure you've got the correct pulley/rpm and your golden.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

I just am woundering about the flow rate. I have a GM pump now and don't want to have too much or too little flow. The max output pressure can be controled with a pressure regulator. Any body know the flow rate and pressure on a GM pump?

I know the GM/Saginaw pump will put out enough flow for full hydro.  Try West Texas Offroad for a high flow mod to the Saginaw pump.  http://westtexasoffroad.homestead.com/powersteering.html

Also, gear pumps are a lot less forgiving than a Saginaw pump if you run them low on fluid.

Thanks, I already did this mod and put on the ram assist. It seems to need more room for the extra fluid and the body seal is leaking again. I was going to put a remote reservoir in and thought about using a gear pump for more positive pressure for the steering and winch. I would like to make sure I don't get too big a pump and have it damage the steering box. If I go this way I may use an adjustable pressure relief. I don't think I will need more than 1600 psi. I could just get a Corvette pump, but that sounds pricey too. Still haven't decided. :headscratch:
