85 to 83
« on: Jul 23, 2005, 05:34:08 PM »
hey guys,
just looking for some info, I found a guy with an 85 extra cab shorty that is an un finished project. He has Downey springs (4) looks like the 4 in econo kit new 33" swampers looks like Ford shock mounts up front and unknown mfg. mount for the rear, fresh eng,trans,clutch,4.88 unknown "lockers" and lots of other extra parts, no bed and no shocks. I forgot to ask him if it was a 22RE Is 85 EFI? The big question is if the price is right how much of it will be useable on my 83 short bed? I think everything but the frame, I read here that the 85 frame is a couple of inches longer in the front than my 83 so my goal is to transfer everything engine ect. to my 83 and sell the 85 cab and frame. Thanks

pretty much everything will transfer over, some things will need more modification than others(you'll have to relocate the transmisssion crossmember since the 85 tranny is longer and have your drivelines resized).  the suspension and axles are virtually the same, though everybody wants the 85 front ends because all the web wheelers say the gusseting makes them stronger :stopit:
