. Form before function, so I don't really care what looks cool. :gap:

Huh?

We custum make all of our bumpers.  Take alook at the bumper on the flamed '93 in the General post in rig gallery.  You suck at welding?  So did everybody at one time,  Practice and you will get better.

IMO a tube bumper is way superiour than a big ol sheet metal bumper. The circle shape is the second strongest geo shape with triangle being in the lead. Just get a marlin tube bumper w/o the stinger if your worried about getting hung up. It doesnt take up much room and it dont look half bad either. I had a tube bumper on my ranger front and rear and I actually broke my mounts before breaking the front. The rear had plenty of dents but that was all. To get a sheetmetal bumper to perform like that its going to be heavy as hell and bulky.

I built my own...not finished yet, i've gotta add the 3" tubing bull bars for front clip protection. I used 3/16" steel, with a back so i can use them for air tanks for my York air system.

I built new mounts with bolt holes alot farther apart than stock, welded to the frame, and gusseted. There's a lower area in the middle for mounting a winch, and to cram as much air as possible through the radiator. I cut out the lower body crossmember that partially blocks the radiator too.

They're pretty heavy but you're not going to bend them. Later when i start building these and other things as a buisness venture i'll build some out of aluminum. I own a sign company, computer vinyl graphics and stuff, so i have all the odd angular pieces of the bumper as plottable graphics in my computer.

If you wanted to build this bumper for yourself, i could send you a DXF file that you could take to a shop that has a plasma plotting table and they could cut all the pieces quick for cheap. Eventually i'll have that plotter in my garage so i can do it at home.

i built my own tube bumper in about 5 hours and just got into car wreck about 2 weeks ago. I was tailgating some old prick and he didnt just tap his breaks he stood on them.  i hammered him at about 40mph. He was at a complete stop when i nailed him. I jumped out of my truck (FAST) and ran up to his window and just about knocked him out until i seen he was like 60. The whole ass end of his car was smashed (it was a right off) And all that was wrong with my truck   was one head light was smashed :ha_ha:

PS i was tailgating him because he was going 60kms in a 80kms zone.

I dont have a bender so you gotta use what you can. I just used some pipe and elbows.

that last pic is after the crash..............see how it bent down just a C-hair.
But it just shows you dont need a super expensive bumper made by some over priced company.
It cost me a wopping $70 for the steal and wire for the welder.
